Handlebar Tin Year Anniversary Party
It's everyone's favorite holiday, Valentine's Day, and we're here to celebrate a love affair with one of our favorite local eateries. The fine folks of Handlebar have decied to close their beloved restaurant for the night and bring their wealth of talent to our stage to help celebrate their Ten Year Anniversary. All of the bands on the bill work at Handlebar in some capacity, and we're honored to have them play our stage. PINK FROST, the new moniker for Chicago faves APTEKA, make their return tonight. Their debut LP (as APTEKA), Gargoyle Days, made Best of 2011 lists at outlets from Time Out Chicago to the Dumbing of America and tonight they'll be celebrating the release of their very first 7" single. Awash in captivating reverb, swirling melodies and soaring, anthemic refrains, PINK FROST lives up to the Chicago Tribune praise of the band, calling them “an increasingly commanding quartet that embraces the power of guitar drone, tribal drum and the deep, shoegaze-era swoon.” Local fuzz-rockers THE RUNNIES return to our stage with their emphatic, anthemic brand of garage rock n’ roll that's steeped in psychedelia and fronted by a smoky-voiced siren. Their quick-hitting songs are filled to the brim with hooks and catchy choruses and they'll surely have the kids pogoing to the organ-driven howlers. Fantastically named TOUCHED BY GHOUL return, having played our stage last with PINK FROST, and they'll bring disturbingly addictive tracks that will hopefully be making their way onto their upcoming debut LP soon. Multidisciplinary artist and musician MELINA AUSIKAITIS returns for a solo set while openers OLD BLACK & BLUE EYES will be performing ska covers of FRANK SINATRA classics. GEL SET will be DJing throughout the night.
