Rye Lyfe IPA is created by diverting the second runnings of wort from Ryeway To Heaven, which is a strong rye ale brewed with 65% rye malt. While the high gravity wort for Ryeway is boiling in brewhouse #2’s kettle, we continue running wort to brewhouse #1’s kettle where we unleash waves of hops upon it and create a completely different style of beer from the same mash!
This is a classic English brewing method which allows you to brew 1 very strong beer and then a second beer which is often referred to as a “small beer”. However, at 6.3 % ABV and 85 IBUs this isn’t very small! Utilizing layers of Citra, Amarillo, Cascade, Centennial, Crystal, Mosaic and Mandarina both in the brewhouse and dry-hop, we extract a clean intense bitterness and layers upon layers of aromas and flavors of melon, pine, citrus and tropical fruit!
The massive amount rye malts in the original mash lends a silky mouthfeel to balance the high bitterness level and along with the incredible amount of aroma oils from the hops helps to through a thick rich head with small tight bubbles to maximize the aromatics given off in the glass! Cheers and hope you enjoy this one because the brew team sure does.
