Old number one. The very first barrel we filled as part of the Sanctuary project is a blend of 2016 and 2017 Deth's Tar from Woodford Double Oak barrels which were finished in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels. We hand-split Madagascar vanilla beans and soaked them in bourbon before adding them to the Heaven Hill barrel to age with the beer. A sipper if ever there was one, this dark behemoth is no clunky pastry stout. Dry, oaky, and boozy–with a light-moderate vanilla aroma and flavor–this stout is perfect to enjoy slowly.
