And new to this year’s lineup is Very Special Old approach to Deth’s Tar that thunders with twice the oaken character.
This release represents everything we love about making the Deep Wood Series for you. You won’t want to miss out. Presales will start Tuesday, November 7 at 9 a.m.
STRAIGHT JACKET
BARREL-AGED BARLEYWINE
The soul of Barleywine channeled through vivifying bourbon barrels and blended with an alchemist’s touch. Summon notes of caramel, stone fruit, brown sugar, and vanilla with each generous swirl.
RYEWAY TO HEAVEN
BARREL-AGED RYEWINE
Singular in heft and layered with symphonic grace. Lofty notes of maple, brown sugar, and candied pecan suggest sweetness before a dry, rye-forward terminus.
D.B.V.S.O.D.
IMPERIAL STOUT AGED IN BOURBON BARRELS
Occupying the epicenter of patience, refinement, and extremity, Double Barrel Very Special Old Deth is a foreboding incantation of swirling malt, spirit, and oak concentrated over several years in our most prized bourbon barrels. Cocoa, vanilla, and stone fruit emanate from the glass, with each decadent sip punctuated by American oak and warming alcohol.
D.B.V.S.O.D. — $50/four-pack (limit 3)
Ryeway to Heaven — $30 (no limit)
Straight Jacket — $25 (no limit)
THE EXCLUSIVE DRAFT VARIANTS
Enjoy these exclusive draft-only variant pours during the Friday and Saturday of the release. Available only at the Taproom (3340 N. Kedzie) for as long as they last.
Barrel no. 7401 — D.B.V.S.O.D. Money Barrel with Troncais Forte French oak 17.6% (Single Barrel)
Every once in a while we sample a barrel that just makes our day. This was one such barrel. Aged in a blend of Weller, Blantons, and Stagg Jr. bourbon barrels, then rebarreled in Buffalo Trace with additional single-origin Troncais Forte French oak, this singular example of Double Barrel V.S.O.D. has a bouquet more like a heavily-oaked French red than Bourbon Barrel Stout.
V.S.O. Boss Lumberstruck — 13.0% (Single Barrel)
2022’s Black Barleywine unblended sweet component aged for two years in a French oak WhistlePig The Boss Hog VIII Lapulapu’s Pacific Rye/Rum barrel. Extended time in-barrel has transformed its once heady malt sweetness into a cherry and stone fruit menagerie balanced by toasty, uncharred oak.
Very Old Thundertaker — 16.2% (SIngle Barrel)
Thirty months in a single Yellowstone Bourbon barrel has turned this Imperial Rye Stout into a chocolatey, boozy caricature of itself. Waves of malt-derrived cocoa and marzipan smash against a breakwall of oaken vanilla in this long-aged expression of Thundertaker.
