Revolution Brewing Introduces Super Zero Sparkling Hop Water

09.19.23   |   Brewery

CHICAGO, September 20 – Revolution Brewing, the largest independent brewery in Illinois, is expanding beyond beer with the release of Super Zero sparkling hop water. As a recognized leader in hop exploration, led by their category-topping Hero IPAs, Revolution is taking the next step to reach out to consumers looking for a non-alcoholic option.

“We’ve been looking deeply at potential offerings for new customers as the craft beer segment matures and drinking occasions change,” Chief Marketing Officer Doug Veliky said. “Not everyone drinks, and even the biggest Revolution fans are presented with situations where they are passing on the opportunity to consume alcohol for one reason or another. The exciting challenge for us was to create an appealing choice for both groups, built on our expertise with hops and commitment to quality.”

Super Zero’s “Save the Day'' tagline reflects its goal of catering to a variety of alcohol-free occasions. As mixed-sobriety consumption patterns show more consumers choosing to partake at certain times while abstaining at others, Super-Zero’s lack of not only alcohol, but calories, carbohydrates, and sugars presents an attractive option for fans of citrusy hop flavor taking a break from beer.

The Super-Zero recipe has been in development since 2022, with the Brew team exploring different hop products, varieties, and techniques over dozens of test batches. The end result matches the hop dosing rate of the brewery’s best seller, Anti-Hero, using two contemporary hop varieties that won out in both flavor and refreshment. The final recipe, Brewmaster Jim Cibak said, finds its power in simplicity.

“We took a look at a lot of different ingredients over several batches, but Super Zero’s recipe ended up with just carbonated water, hops, and citric acid,” Cibak said. “Sabro and Nectaron are two of the highest quality varieties and we wanted to let those refreshing fruit notes shine. We used whole hop pellets, no oils, extracts, or sweeteners, and found that anything else would just get in the way of that big rush of fresh hop flavor.”

Six-packs of Super-Zero are available now at retailers, launched just in time for those observing Sober October. Revolution will also be sponsoring the first-ever “NA Lounge” at November’s Festival of Wood and Barrel-aged Beer run by the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild. And Super-Zero will take center stage at Revolution for the entirety of January 2023, as beer fans set new health goals and reevaluate their consumption patterns.

In addition to Revolution’s existing distribution network, Super Zero will be available to consumers who order directly through the brewery’s website. This means that Super Zero will be available in states outside of Revolution’s distribution footprint.

“We’re excited to be able to make Super Zero widely available to existing fans and new faces alike,“ Veliky said. “And as a side benefit, we’re really enjoying having an ‘on the clock’ beverage available at the brewery.”
