Tailgate the Chicago Red Stars Opener with Rev and Chicago Local 134
04.20.20
Earlier this year, we made a deal with Chicago Local 134—the official supporters club of the Chicago Red Stars—to sponsor their tailgates this year. A passionate grassroots group bursting with Chicago pride reminded us a lot of the people we already loved to hang out with at our Taproom. Rev and Local 134 targeted the home opener, April 25, to officially kick off an exciting summer.
Obviously things have gone differently than either of us had hoped. But Chicago doesn't quit, and apart doesn't have to mean alone. So we, along with Local 134 and the Red Stars, are throwing a virtual tailgate to celebrate team, city, and togetherness.
Saturday, April 25 -- 3 p.m. Let's have a good old-fashioned tailgate. From home.
Come talk beer, try your hand at a tifo display contest, and meet new Red Star Kealia Ohai Watt.
All you need to do to join the fun is to sign up here and let us know where you'd like the invitation sent. Then you can join in on:
- Beer talk from Revolution, including the brand-new City Series redesign that reflects our eternal love of Chicago and appreciation of classic session beers.
- An at-home tifo contest, with prizes including Rev beer, Red Stars merch, and a Local 134 scarf.
- Q&A with new Red Star Kealia Ohai Watt and team owner Arnim Whisler.
Grab a Revolution/Local 134 Combo Pack
We've also created a combo that brings an entire parking lot of fun into your own home. The Revolution/Local 134 Combo Pack, available for Curbside Revolution pickup, includes each beer in the City Series, Local 134 coasters with the original season schedule (a collector's item), and a sticker and temporary tattoo pack from the Red Stars.
Need a Red Stars primer?
No problem! The Red Stars are Chicago's top-flight women's soccer team, founded in 2007 and playing matches at 71st and Harlem in Bridgeview. They compete in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), where they've been one of the winningest teams throughout league history, and made the playoff final in 2019.
The Team
The Red Stars feature some of the best players in soccer, including some of the heroes from the 2019 World Cup. The entire roster is world-class, but if you need somewhere to start:
- Goalkeeper: Alyssa Naeher
Starting keeper for the 2019 World Cup champions -- we still owe her beers for that penalty kick save in the semifinals. When Gozer the Gozerian says "choose the form of the Destructor," a giant Naeher steps on England manager Phil Neville's house. - Defender: Casey Short
Naperville native, Florida State alum, and an absolute nightmare for opposing attackers. Check out the game against the Houston Dash last September -- she plays like it's a video game set to rookie difficulty. - Midfielder: Julie Ertz
National team anchor (more than 100 appearances for the U.S.), midfield general, and the heart and soul of the team. Even in Chicago, talent like this doesn't come around often. - Forward: Yuki Nagasato
Fair to say the runaway fan favorite -- she paints, she plays in a rock band, and she's a terror in front of goal.
The Fan Culture
Follow the team online long enough, and you'll see the hashtag #MKOT pop up a lot. That stands for "My Kind of Town," which we're hoping is pretty self-explanatory.
Need a chant? You have definitely picked the right sport. Our friends at Chicago Local 134 keep a running list of their favorite gameday bangers.
Want to join them in the Harlem end of SeatGeek Stadium (or just show your support?)—all comers are welcome to sign up here.

Chicago Pale Ale ®
Fist City is a Chicago Pale Ale that flashes with citrusy hops and crackles with a light, crisp bitterness. It's the perfect sidekick to relaxing fun, or a refreshing finish line at the end of a long day -- and always a wonderful match to any of our city's famous dishes. This local favorite emphasizes the Statue of the Republic, a gilded statue in Jackson Park built to commemorate the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. And it's the foundation of the City Series -- classic styles for any session, proudly brewed only in Chicago.

This Chicago Pilsner is a statement of tradition and quality from our brewers to their forebears in Bavaria and beyond. It's made with American craft style and all-German ingredients. Crisp and refreshing, with a classic Noble hop finish, Rev Pils is the staff beer of choice at the end of a workday at Revolution. The can highlights the marble eagle of the Illinois Centennial Monument, which proudly stands in the Logan Square neighborhood where Revolution Brewing began, and where we're still proud to call home. This broad-shouldered Pilsner is part of the City Series -- classic styles for any session, proudly brewed only in Chicago.

Chicago Golden Ale
Cross of Gold is a straightforward, refreshing Golden Ale from the very first days of Revolution. It began life in our Chairman's basement pilot brew system, won gold at the Great American Beer Festival, and consistently remains one of the most popular pours at our Logan Square Brewpub. The can prominently features the iconic L train -- the pulsing heartbeat of Chicago that connects the heart of the city to the North, South, and West Sides. This crowd-pleasing favorite is part of the City Series -- classic styles for any session, proudly brewed only in Chicago.
