Summer Jacket

When in the course of Midwestern events it becomes necessary for one people to finally shake loose their down parkas and enjoy the fleeting bounty of summer, beer lovers turn to a lavish offering of quaffable suds to accompany their barbecues, sporting events, and various forms of sun worship. It’s a time when renewed life and vitality make more distant the memory of winter’s crushing malaise and the looming specter of its inevitable return.

But we still miss Barleywine.

And to this end, we endeavored to create not just one, but two Barrel-Aged Barleywines to fit perfectly with the warm season. They’re the only Jackets you’ll need this summer.

Beauty Through Blending

One thing that not everyone knows: Our beloved Straight Jacket and all its variants are the result of producing beers of disparate attributes before blending just the right amount of each to achieve their unique profiles.

So every barrel of Straight Jacket aging in the Taproom has a unique profile – some lean sweet, some lean dry – and each can you open is a blend that we engineered to create exactly the beer we wanted to make.

Typically though, we’re left with a handful of barrels that don’t realize their destiny after their first year of maturation. It’s from these would-be-orphan barrels we constructed our two newest Straight Jacket variants, Strawberry Jacket and Honey Jacket.

Made up exclusively of extra-vintage dry Barleywines, both versions are back sweetened into balance using their respective additions of unfermented fruit and honey. But that’s hardly the sum of it; using these ingredients in this way allows for each to be as expressive as possible.

Undiminished by boiling or fermentation, the delicate flavor and aroma of fresh strawberry deftly shines through the considerable sensory experience that is an eighteen-month-old English Barleywine. So too does the nuance of fresh, local honey, which is notoriously difficult to preserve in typical brewing processes.

Strawberry Jacket

STRAWBERRY JACKET

Yes, Strawberry Jacket. A slightly drier blend of bourbon and rye whiskey barrel English Barleywines aged eighteen months provides a base for the delicate nuances of fresh strawberry to shine while retaining the same balance we expect of our beloved Straight Jacket. Reminiscent a fresh, juicy strawberry atop a crème brûlée, this sipper is as at home beside your favorite dessert as it is on its own. Enjoy now or store cold.

13% ABV, $40/four-pack
Limit 2

Honey Jacket

HONEY JACKET

We’re not the only ones who’ve been busy since last Deep Wood season; Revolution’s only permanent residents (residing in a hive on the brewery’s roof) have been pollinating local flora and producing honey for the past year. Not to be outdone, our brewers selected a crop of eighteen-month-old bourbon and rye whiskey barrel aged English Barleywines to imbue with the bees’ golden elixir. Worth the welts. Enjoy now or store cold.

1 ) Will 4-packs make it until the days following the release?
We won’t know that until we see the turnout at the release events, so we’re not able to predict how long each beer will be available. We will announce at the end of the release event if any 4-packs remain.

2 ) What are the limits on four-packs?
Customers can purchase two four-packs of Honey Jacket and two four-packs of Strawberry Jacket.

3 ) Will the lines be under cover again?
Yes! The line to buy Deep Wood Series cans will once again be underneath our driveway, located at the North end of the building, keeping you out of the elements.

4 ) Where will four-packs be available?
During the release, all Deep Wood Series cans will be sold out of our Shipping & Receiving area, next door to the Taproom at 3350 N. Kedzie Ave.

5 ) Will there be food available at the release events?
The Revolution Taproom doesn’t serve food, but we encourage customers to bring their own food, and we’ll have food trucks scheduled to come and serve Rev fans

6 ) Will either Strawberry or Honey Jacket cans see distribution?

As much as we'd like to send these out to everyone, we only had so much Straight Jacket left for this special project. The cans will only be available in our Taproom.

7 ) Is the beer ready to drink now?

Deep Wood Series beers are already aged between 6-36 months (depending on the beer) before we package them. They’re absolutely ready to drink right away, and we don’t recommend piling them on a lonely shelf for years at a time. Seriously - we made these beers for you to enjoy. Bottoms up!

8 ) What is the best by date for Deep Wood Series beers?
We do not provide a best by date on our cans. While the beer may taste great in the future, our aluminum can supplier follows the industry standard and only warranties the integrity of our cans for 12 months.

9 ) Anything else we should know?
To properly serve all of our release guests, we will not be accepting keg returns or pick-up the day of the release. For guests anxious to try the releases, we encourage you to visit a preview party the night before. The Revolution Brewpub, at 2323 N. Milwaukee Ave., will also have Honey Jacket and Strawberry Jacket available on draft starting at 11 a.m. the day of the release.
