This Pale Ale was designed to feature the somewhat new German hop variety, Mandarina. Unlike many traditional ‘noble’ hop varieties that Germany is famous for growing, which can be more herbal and grassy, Mandarina was bred for more citrus characteristcs- and as the name would imply, it has lots of tangerine notes in its flavor and aroma. We used Patagonia Extra Pale malt as the base, with a touch of Best Caramel Aromatic for some color and a boost of malt background… It is dry-hopped with about 1.5#/ barrel of Mandarina in the fermenter for additional citrus aroma.
