DETH'S TAR - DEEP WOOD SERIES RELEASE

DETH’S TAR WILL BE MAKING A MIGHTY RETURN WITH TWO VARIANTS AS WE CONTINUE OUR SERIES OF DEEP WOOD RELEASES. We will be welcoming back Café Deth, a bourbon barrel-aged Imperial Stout infused with Dark Matter Coffee beans. We’ll also be releasing Deth by Currants, a version of Deth’s Tar with a heavy dose of black currants. Join us for the official release on Friday, November 16 and Saturday, November 17 at the Revolution Taproom.

Deth's Tar

Witness the firepower of this fully operational Barrel-Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout. Brewed with English specialty malts and the addition of flaked and malted oats to create a rich, chocolaty profile and silky mouthfeel that cloaks its considerable strength. The American oak barrels continue to build layers of complexity, reminiscent of vanilla, toasted coconut and caramel candy after aging this dark menace a full 12 months.

AWARD

Bronze (Strong Porter/Stout) – Festival of Barrel Aged Beers (2015)

"The Deth’s Tar beers aren’t just imperial stouts; they’re imperial oatmeal stouts, and the distinction is meaningful. The presence of oat malt and flaked oats add silky texture and tamps down some of the alcohol. That’s particularly noticeable on the flagship version, which has no additional flavors to hide behind. What we get is a rush of chocolate and vanilla (maybe a touch more dominance on the vanilla), followed by one of the most important features of a quality barrel-aged stout: barrel character. The finish is long, it is oaky and it is rife with bourbon (and maybe a touch of dried fruit). Many barrel-aged stouts have veered sweeter in recent years, ending with a long sweet rush. Not Deth’s Tar. It dries out beautifully with a touch — just a touch — of boozy heat." - JOSH NOEL, 2017

CAFÉ DETH

A weaponized quantity of freshly roasted whole bean coffee from Gaslight & Dark Matter coffee roasters imbues our Deth’s Tar Barrel-Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout with assertive coffee aromatics without overshadowing the base beer on the palate. Pair with rich food or enjoy on its own. Keep cold. Enjoy now. We mean it.

Draft-Only Selections

We're excited to share the list of draft-only selections for next week's Deth's Tar release.

An equal amount of each will be allocated to Friday & Saturday and we expect to have enough to last deep into the evenings.

BARREL-AGED IMPERIAL CHERRY EUGENE - 13.1%

If you want oak, you've got it. This Robust Porter was fortified with tart cherries prior to fermentation, lending a moderate tartness and restrained fruit flavor. A 20-month stay in Woodford Double Oak barrels brought a massive American oak tannin profile and a pronounced dry finish. Think chocolate-covered, bourbon-soaked cherries served in a wood shop – in a good way.

LA PETITE DETH - 13.0%

Finally, Deth's Tar for Francophiles. This Imperial Oatmeal Stout was aged in French oak barrels that originally held Cognac, then our Mineshaft Gap barrel-aged American Barleywine. With the Cognac mostly extracted by the preceding barleywine, this Imperial Stout soaked up loads of beautiful French oak flavor and aroma. One year later, this sophisticated sipper showcases the confluence of time and French oak in our barrel-aged Stout – sublime notes of vanilla, dried stone fruit, caramel, and leather parley with dark chocolate and roast to create this one-of-a-kind take on Deth's Tar. À votre santé!

DETH'S TAR LIMITED 2018 - 14.6%

The combination of our powerful Imperial Oatmeal Stout and a year spent in special Woodford Reserve Master's Collection barrels. It’s smooth, deep, and complex. Only two barrels were produced, so now's the time to satisfy your curiosity.

VSOD 2018 - 14.8%

The 2017 edition of Deth's Tar, aged an additional year in our most prized barrels, including Buffalo Trace, Woodford Double Oak, and Heaven Hill Bourbon. This off-dry sipper is loaded with beautiful American Oak and silky smooth bourbon character. We only produced four barrels, so try it while it’s still around.

SANCTUARY #2: DBVSOD 2018 SELECT

Project Sanctuary #2 is a wondrously luscious and complex barrel of Deth's Tar 2017 which spent it's first year in a Woodford Double Oak barrel before being transferred directly into a Heaven Hill Bourbon barrel for further maturation. If that wasn't enough, we blended in a touch of two-year aged Woodford Double Oak Ryeway to Heaven for a kiss of ridiculous.

1 ) Will 4-packs make it until the days following the release?
We won’t know that until we see the turnout at the release events, so we’re not able to predict how long each beer will be available. We will announce at the end of the release event if any 4-packs remain.

2 ) Will the same variants be on tap both days? Will they last beyond Friday and Satuday?
An equal amount of all draft-only variants will be allocated across Friday and Saturday. There's a chance we will have draft-only variants on tap the following day. Please check our website or our Untappd page, which we update in real-time, to see what is on draft.

3 ) What are the limits on four-packs?
Deth's Tar four-pack: $25 + tax (Limit 3)
Café Deth four-pack: $30 + tax (Limit 3)
Deth by Currants four-pack: $35 + tax (Limit 2)

4 ) Will allocations be spread evenly across Friday and Saturday? Yes! An equal amount of all three beers will be allocated across the two day release.

5 ) Will the lines be under cover again? Yes! The line to buy Deep Wood Series cans will once again be underneath our driveway, located at the North end of the building, keeping you out of the elements and a little warmer.

6 ) Where will four-packs be available?During the release, all Deep Wood Series cans will be sold out of our Shipping & Receiving area, next door to the Taproom at 3350 N. Kedzie Ave. Deth's Tar & Café Deth four-packs will see wide distribution following the release. Please use our Beer Finder to locate a location near you, beginning in late November.

7 ) Will there be food available at the release events?
The Revolution Taproom doesn’t serve food, but we encourage customers to bring their own food, and we’ll have food trucks scheduled to come and serve Rev fans.

8 ) Why doesn't the release begin until 4:00pm?
It takes an army to set up and execute our barrel-aged releases, ensuring that service and lines move quickly. The 4:00pm start time is out of necessity to ensure we have a large enough staff to make your experience enjoyable. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

9 ) Is the beer ready to drink now? Deep Wood Series beers are already aged between 6-36 months (depending on the beer) before we package them. They’re absolutely ready to drink right away, and we don’t recommend piling them on a lonely shelf for years at a time. Seriously - we made these beers for you to enjoy. Bottoms up!

10 ) What is the best by date for Deep Wood Series beers?
We do not provide a best by date on our cans. While the beer may taste great in the future, our aluminum can supplier follows the industry standard and only warranties the integrity of our cans for 12 months.

11 ) Anything else we should know?
To properly serve all of our release guests, we will not be accepting keg returns or pick-up the day of the release. Our taproom will also observing special hours to properly prepare for speedy service. For guests anxious to try the releases, we encourage you to visit a preview party the night before or our brewpub (the day of the release).
