ABOUT THE BREWS:
- Deth’s Tar: A Barrel-Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout brewed with English specialty malts and the addition of flaked and malted oats to create a rich, chocolaty profile and silky mouthfeel that cloaks its considerable strength. The American oak barrels continue to build layers of complexity, reminiscent of vanilla, toasted coconut and caramel candy after aging this dark menace a full 12 months. ABV: 14.8%
- Cafe Deth: A weaponized quantity of freshly roasted whole bean coffee from independent Chicago roasters imbues our Deth’s Tar Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout with assertive coffee aromatics without overshadowing the base beer on the palate. Pair with rich food or enjoy on its own. ABV: 14.8%
- Deth by Cherries: Unfermented tart cherries add a mild acidity and subtly rounding sweetness to our Deth’s Tar Barrel-Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout. Flavors and aromas of bourbon and oak meld harmoniously with the fruit, each balancing the other. Enjoy now or store cold. ABV: 13.1%
SPECIAL VARIANTS:
- Deth by Currants: We accidentally spilled a whole bunch of black currant juice into four barrels of Deth’s Tar while filling them last year. Tart, sweet, and fruity, this variant is a significant departure from the others. ABV: 14%
- Deth by Plums: Our Deth’s Tar Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout with plums. The unfermented fruit lends a satisfying acidity and smoothing sweetness to this bruiser without making it “chunky” or syrupy. Only a few kegs produced, so get it while it lasts. ABV: 11.4%
- Vanilla Deth: You want vanilla? Fine. How about some bourbon-soaked vanilla beans in 2016 Deth’s Tar? That’s right. ABV: 13.5%
- Cocoa Deth: Ecuadorian cocoa nibs provide a greater range of flavors and aromatics than the everyday variety. They’re fermented not unlike some other niche products, imbuing them with organic subtle complexities. Expect a big ol’ dark chocolate nose and flavor with a hint of nuttiness. ABV: 13.5%

4. WILL THERE BE A RELEASE PARTY FOR EACH OF THE RELEASE DATES FOR EACH DEEP WOOD SERIES?
Yes. We will be releasing all 8 beers over the course of 3 release parties.
5. WHAT SIZE CANS WILL THE DEEP WOOD SERIES BEERS BE PACKAGED IN? HOW MANY CANS COME IN A PACK?
All Deep Wood beers will be in 4‑packs of 12 ounce cans.
6. WHY DID REVOLUTION DECIDE TO MAKE THE SWITCH FROM 22OZ. BOTTLES TO CANS?
We are making this change to give consumers better value per ounce, compared to the 22oz. bottle, and to bring down the container size to accommodate individual enjoyment.
7. WHAT WILL THE COST BE?
At the Revolution Tap Room, 4‑packs will range between $25.00-$35.00 + tax, depending on the beer.
8. WHY DO THE BARREL-AGED BEERS COST MORE THIS YEAR?
While the price is higher for the package, we are providing a significant improvement in cost per ounce for our most familiar Deep Wood Series beers: Deth’s Tar, Ryeway to Heaven, and Straight Jacket. Additionally, the new format and price allows us to provide up to 4 consumption occasions per package, instead of 1.
9. WILL BOTH CASH & CREDIT CARDS BE ACCEPTED?
Packaged Beer sales will accept both credit cards and cash, however draft sales inside the party will be Cash Only.
10. WILL THERE BE A LIMIT ON HOW MANY OF EACH VARIANT I CAN PURCHASE?
We are anticipating that Cafe Deth will have a limit of 4 and Deth by Cherry will have a limit of 1 4‑pack per person. We do not expect to have a limit on Deth’s Tar.
11. WHY ARE THERE TWO DAYS FOR THE DETH’S TAR RELEASE PARTY?
We decided to add a second day to the Deth’s Tar party to help spread out the crowds and make everyone’s experience more enjoyable. Adding a weekend day will also give our fans outside of Chicago a better opportunity to attend the event.
12. WILL THERE BE FOOD FOR THE DETH’S TAR RELEASE PARTY?
The following Food Trucks will be on-site each day:
Friday — Bruges Bros (Outside), Cafe Tola (Inside)
Saturday — Piko Street (Outside), Bruges Bros (Outside), Cafe Tola (Inside)
13. CAN I LEAVE THE PARTY AND IMMEDIATELY RE-ENTER TO USE VISIT THE FOOD TRUCK?
Yes
14. WHAT IF YOU RUN OUT OF A BEER AFTER THE 1ST DAY OF DETH’S TAR?
We will be allocating half of our Deth’s Tar and variants to each day to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to purchase.
15. HOW LONG WILL EACH DEEP WOOD SERIES BEER BE AVAILABLE FOR?
Availability will be determined by the turnout at the release parties. We are unable to guarantee how long each beer will remain available for sale.
16. IS THERE A PURCHASING LIMIT ON 4‑PACKS AT RELEASE PARTIES?
Deth’s Tar will not have a purchase limit. Café Deth will be 4 per person. Deth by Cherries will be 1 per person. Limits will be announced for the remaining Deep Wood Series cans prior to their release.
17. WILL THE RELEASE PARTIES HAVE DRAFT-ONLY VARIANTS?
Yes. Draft-only variants will be announced in the weeks leading up to each release party.
18. WILL THE SAME VARIANTS BE AVAILABLE FOR BOTH DAYS OF DETH’S TAR?
Yes. We will allocate quantities of each variant for both days of the Deth’s Tar release.
19. WILL THE NEW PACKAGING AFFECT THE TASTE?
We expect quality to increase with the move to cans since we are able to fill them with significantly less oxygen or TPO (Total Package Oxygen) in the package.
20. WILL THE CHANGE OF PACKAGING AFFECT THE SHELF LIFE OF DEEP WOOD SERIES?
All of our Deep Wood Series beers are already aged for 6–24 months before we package and sell them so they do not need additional aging and we do not recommend saving these for beers for years. Drink them! With the move to cans, we expect the quality and shelf life to increase since we will fill the cans with less dissolved oxygen than our 22 oz. bottle filler.
21. WILL PASTEURIZATION AFFECT THE SHELF LIFE OF THE DEEP WOOD SERIES?
Pasteurizing these beers is a new adventure for us, but we believe it is the right thing to do to ensure extended quality for these beers that age in wood for months. The flash pasteurization method we are using should not significantly affect the taste and will increase the shelf life of the beer.
22. WILL CANS AFFECT HOW THE FLAVORS EVOLVE OVER TIME?
We have tasted many beers aged over a year in cans and have not tasted any major flavor changes other than the beer aging normally. Again, we do not recommend long-aging of these beers as they have already been aged 6–24 months in the barrel and are ready to drink now.
