Spirit of Revolt

01.22.18

Chicago’s Revolution Brewing proudly employs 68 strong female leaders, a group of whom assembled last week to brew Spirit of Revolt. This Imperial IPA was created in celebration of International Women’s Day and will be released on draft at Revolution’s Tap Room and Brewpub on Wednesday, February 21st. In addition to the beer release, Revolution will be organizing an all-female arts and crafts fair at the Tap Room on International Women’s Day on March 8th.

Spirit of Revolt is brewed with specialty malts from woman-lead Weyermann Malting, with an addition of oat malt, giving it a smooth, round body. A unique dry-hop blend of Michigan grown Cascade, Cashmere, and Slovenian Styrian Fox hops add notes of citrus, pineapple, and melon features. Both Revolution’s Tap Room and Brewpub locations are donating 100% of the beer’s sales to Connections for Abused Women and their Children (CAWC) for Spirit of Revolt’s entire duration on tap.

The all-female arts and crafts fair at the Tap Room on March 8th will showcase women-owned food trucks, women artist booths, all-female music, screenings of movies with female leads, and Spirit of Revolt t‑shirts designed and printed by the ladies of Revolution, with 100% of t‑shirt sales being donated to CAWC, as well. Other female inspired Revolution beers will be on draft including Working Woman, an American Brown Ale, and Working Mom, an Imperial Brown Ale aged in Old Forester bourbon barrels.

Inspiration for this project was sparked internally by a Margaret Sanger quote referenced in The Secret History of Wonder Woman by Jill Lepore: Because I believe that deep down in woman’s nature lies slumbering the spirit of revolt.” These words are both inspiring and empowering to women, while capturing a core value that the brewery was founded upon, celebrating revolutionary people and movements through a passion for beer.

Revolution Brewing will share updates on the Spirit of Revolt International Women’s Day Arts and Crafts Fair on their website (https://revbrew.com/news/spirit-of-revolt) and their Facebook Event page (www.facebook.com/RevBrewChicago).
